Is your mind driving you crazy?

Your mind is an instrument, a tool. It is there to be used for a specific task, and when the task is completed, you lay it down."

How well do you keep the length of your “elevator pitch” in check?

Note to self: “Remember to keep your “elevator pitch” under 10 seconds.”

Only then will you be able to convey the essence of what your business does.

Remembering when I first started networking, I would go on and on, trying to say everything I could about what I did. I just didn’t get the point of the “elevator pitch”. Only through experience did I realize that an effective and efficient “pitch” should:

  • Generate curiosity so people want to:
    • get more information about what you/your company offers.
  • Make it easy for people to:
    • know what you actually do
    • know how you can help them
    • remember you for referral opportunities.

By the way, if we talk for more than 90 seconds, we make it difficult for others to identify what makes our offering unique in the market place. In turn, the essence of what we do is lost in our message which leads to missed opportunities. Opportunities to connect, to set up follow up meetings or get referrals.

With this being being said, I’d like to hear from you. What’s been your experience with “elevator pitches”?
